Marking a major milestone—65 years since the theatre first opened its doors.

Since their opening in March 1960 the theatre has been a central hub for arts and culture showcasing a vibrant mix of performances ranging from musicals to comedy, music and drama.

Rotherham Civic Theatre has long been a beloved venue for both local audiences and visiting artists showcasing an impressive variety of productions offering a stage for emerging and established talent. From timeless musicals to unforgettable plays, hilarious comedy, and music including national acts and tribute bands not forgetting the much-loved festive pantomime that audiences in Rotherham have grown up with.

The theatre has hosted many legendary figures over the years such as Ken Dodd, The Chuckle Brothers, Brian Blessed, Joe Pasquale, Elkie Brooks, Midge Ure, Cannon and Ball, and more recently Su Pollard, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Gareth Gates, Ed Byrne and Scott Bennet.

In addition to its diverse programme, Rotherham Civic Theatre has been a vital space for local theatre companies and community groups, offering a platform for emerging talent and providing education and opportunities for the next generation of performers.

Rotherham Civic Theatre said: “What an amazing 65 years we’ve had! We’ve welcomed so many fantastic shows, talented performers and loyal customers through our doors. We are pleased to be able to cater for such a huge, varied audience with music, drama, comedy, and musicals to family shows to help introduce the younger audiences to live theatre, to our much-loved Christmas pantomime sprinkling everybody with panto magic.

We’ve got lots of exciting plans this year for the theatre, so keep a look out on our social channels and website for updates. We wouldn’t be marking 65 years, if it wasn’t for you our loyal audiences. Thank you for being with us and supporting us from the beginning. Here’s to another 65 years of magical theatre.

Rotherham Civic Theatre continues to look to the future with the commitment to bringing even more diverse and inspiring performances to the stage.
