Our Story
From scared space to stage sensation, Rotherham Civic Theatre is more than just a theatre it is a place for creativity, community and where people come together for a shared love of the theatre.
Originally a beautiful Church, Rotherham Civic Theatre was bought by the council in 1960, since then it has been a vibrant cultural landmark at the heart of our community. The building’s stunning architecture provided a perfect foundation for what would become a cherished home for the performing arts.
Over the decades, our theatre has welcomed some of the biggest names in entertainment, bringing unforgettable performances to Rotherham audiences. Legends such as Honor Blackman, Suranne Jones, The Chuckle Brothers, Ken Dodd, Brian Blessed, Penelope Keith, Joe Pasquale, and John Savident have graced our stage, leaving lasting memories and inspiring generations.
In 2021, we began a new chapter reopening following Covid with a brand-new café and bar area, making us more accessible and ensuring everyone, no matter their background, can access and enjoy performances at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
